The Slayer Chronicles II: The Problem with Plague

Facilitator:
Sophie M

Hong Kong. 1894. Plague is ravaging the city and thousands are dying every day. As an important colony for the British Empire the colonial government is doing all it can to control the problem. But the problem isn’t medical. It’s occult. No matter how much the doctors try to stop the spread their cures don’t work. Not like they should.

Backstage at High Fructose

Facilitator:
Stephanie Cybart

High Fructose is the music festival that any band that's anything on the music-that's-only-cool-if-too-many-people-haven't-heard-of-it circuit would sacrifice their favourite vintage leather jackets to play in. This year's headlining acts are lo-fi gods Hive Engine and twee pop darlings The Penny Dreadfuls, and the event's had its highest turnout yet- Several extra Nebraska cornfields had to be bulldozed just to contain the crowds.

Unfortunately, the headlining bands' long-standing rivalry has come to a head. Hive Engine's guitarist stole the Penny Dreadful's drummer's drugs, or The Penny Dreadful's maraca player slept with Hive Engine's bassist's boyfriend, or something equally stupid. No one's really sure what happened -partly due to both bands' willingness to let unfounded accusations about the other fly- but the important thing is that both Hive Engine and The Penny Dreadfuls have announced their refusal to go on unless the other agrees to drop out of the festival.

As a last resort, the event manager has ordered everyone to sit down and settle their differences. Whether it's through respectful negotiation or the result of a booze-fuelled stupor isn't important- There are only three hours to go, and if this doesn't get sorted out the media will pounce on the train wreck that's sure to ensue and ensure that High Fructose becomes the festival that everyone's heard of- For entirely the wrong reasons.

Sometimes, you can see the bad shit coming in advance. Take this email that just arrived, for example. On the surface, there is nothing wrong with it — just a form email from Human Resources, politely checking to make sure certain documents are in order. Do you have a valid passport? Are you inoculated against various tropical diseases? Did you pass your last medical check? All innocent on the surface, but something's up. The Laundry doesn't send people at your pay grade abroad except to mind-numbingly dull conference meetings and suicide missions; you are not sure which is worse.

Now you have another one - this time HR wants to know if your next of kin registration is still valid. Uh-oh...

The third email of the morning might as well be titled ‘RE: Bad Shit’. It is actually entitled ‘Meeting 10:30 room C4’ but the cc list includes someone called ventry@sis.gov.uk...

Welcome to sunny Nuristan—possibly the most isolated and inaccessible bit of Afghanistan, high in the Hindu Kush. It is home to lots of people who want to kill us all. It is also home to Alga Akhan, an Afghan warlord who might be a vital ally... or a worshipper of an alien god. Or both. It is up to the characters to make that call.

There Will Be Blood

Facilitator:
Michael Foster

For too long Sharky and his gang of gang of psychotic thugs have been getting away, literally, with murder in the East End. Their crimes are too numerous to list, the details too horrific for even the most hardened cops to stomach, the body count higher than the Burj Khalifa and the financial cost of the damage enough to make even the greediest Wall St broker feel faint.
But certain members of the elite organised crime unit have had enough, they're concocting an elaborate plan in secret to take them down once and for all. One way or another, there will be blood, and lots of it.
