Means, Motive, Opportunity

Facilitator:
Nicholas Green

It is the year 1921 and Britain has emerged victorious from The Great War - thanks in part to the efforts of Short Brothers Plc who supplied the planes used in the reconnaissance missions. The owner and chairman, Eustace Short, has invited you to an evening at his home in the countryside, with the understanding that he wishes to make an announcement. Several thoughts rush to mind:

* The company has been suffering lately under his leadership - is he announcing his retirement?
* One of his airships crashed on the City of Hull earlier this year killing 45 people - is he planning to pay reparations or perhaps a memorial?
* Rumour has it that he has been consulting a new lawyer about his will - is he anouncing the changes?

The evening is, however, thrown into disarray when he is found murdered! And to compound matters, you are named as one of the six suspects!

We are looking for six people to play the following characters:
* Scarlett Short - a wealthy young socialite who recently married the victim
* Oswald Short - brother to the victim, part time engineering genius, full time alcoholic and gambler
* Gordon Bell - war buddy to the victim and powerful solicitor
* Cynthia Bell - childhood friend to the victim and married to Gordon Bell
* John Parker - young, ambitious and second in charge of the company
* Herman Smit - the local General Practitioner and personal physician to the victim

Means, Motive, Opportunity is an online and multiplayer game. It involves using a web site and engaging with other players via voice conference. We will bring the computers, you will bring your voice and your imagination.

The game will be run in an offsite location a short walk from Wellington High School

CASE LAMBENT WITCH

Facilitator:
IdiotSavant

This briefing is classified BLUE HADES. If you do not have BLUE HADES clearance, please leave the room now.

"At 0944 this morning, communication with the Witch Bravo oil platform was lost. It was initially believed to be a combination of heavy weather and technical difficulties but when they continued to remain out of touch, Witch Charlie sent a chopper out. It couldn’t land because of high winds but the pilot noted two things.

"Firstly, there were crew moving about on deck. Actually, he said ‘stumbling’. Secondly, the gas flare from the rig was green.

"At 1602, a rescue boat from the coast guard made contact with the platform. The last transmission we got from them was, ‘Oh fuck, they’ve got glowing eyes’.

"Witch Bravo is right on the edge of an area designated in the Benthic Treaty as forbidden to humanity. Without wishing to prejudice your findings, it is entirely possible that some moron has drilled into Cthulhu’s arse-crack. If that's the case, then your job is to plug it.

"But first, a word from Health & Safety..."

Extra time

Our magnificent SDC judge, Sophie Melchior, has decided to extend the scenario design competition deadline to 10 January 2012. So, the SDC is now officially in extra time!

If you have something you want to enter (such as, oh, that great game you ran last year, or are running this year, or ran at Fright Night), then you have a month to polish it up and send it away.

The Baker Street Irregulars

Facilitator:
Erik Andersen

“I often marvel at how much stock you place in those boys’ abilities. You really think they’ll be able to track down the culprit?”
“Probably,” said Holmes, reaching for his hat and cane, “but they are only one avenue of investigation I’m following in this pursuit. Come on Watson, the night is young and there’s murder in the air; we can’t
let them have all the fun!”

Wiggins walked from the door of 221B Baker Street excitedly, hiding the final shining coins about his person. He disappeared amongst the back street fog, whistling as he went. Soon the gang was gathered and Wiggins held out a coin for each of them, “Same old job boys,” he smiled, “go everywhere, see everything and overhear everyone.”

Sundown

Facilitator:
Dale

It’s easy to feel alone as the shadows gather and the pale moon rises over the High Plains. The Cherokee say that on nights like this, the cold wind from the prairie has a mind of its own – a malignant chill, born of the darkness, which eats at your warmth, and steals all compassion.

It was a night like that when Barton Duvall rode into Tombstone. A night like that when they found what was left of little Alina Hundle –the few sad remains, barely recognizable, that Barton had left for her family to bury. And, it was a night like that when you realised that justice was more than a word bandied around by fearful shopkeepers – it was a necessity.

The year is 1880, and the posse is forming…

Sundown is a character-driven scenario of the old-west written to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Call of Cthulhu. It was originally run at Fright Night 5.

The Discarded

Tigger

In 2172 AD the most repulsive mutant horrors were expelled from earth. For 14 long lonely years, you, the dribbling, infected, creatures of nightmare have been doomed to wander the solar system in a rusty shell of a space ship – The Kalistrate. No refuge to be found on any of the terra-formed planets. No place to call home.
In a society seeking the ultimate in physical beauty, what becomes of those who are less than perfect? A challenging role-play set in the future, confronting the roles of beauty and humanity.
Costuming: This is very open. There is one common theme: All characters have physical mutations of some kind.
This has NOT been designed as a combat game.
