Operation Washout

Facilitator:
M.A. Charles

The Imperial world of Caladan is a world of moderate significance, deep within the Hades Rift. A planet of azure oceans and tropical islands, there is little to interest outside parties as the planet has low strategic value to the foul Xenos who infect the sub-sector. What is clear is that shortly before all Astropathic communication was abruptly cutoff the Planetary Governor demanded urgent assistance from the Astra Militarum.
The Cadian 92nd, fresh from a campaign to purge Heretical worshipers of Chaos have been re-routed to join ten other regiments in restoring order to the isolated Ocean planet.
The players, under the command of Captain Stromm, Second Company, find themselves tasked with leading the assault to retake the Governor's palace.
It is the 41st Millennium and in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war

Six Monks in a Leaky Boat

Facilitator:
Ivan Towlson

Welcome to 13th-century England! You are monks in the service of the LORD. Praise the LORD! The LORD is your friend! After toiling away for years as Red sanctity novices, you have finally achieved the Orange habits of monks. But all is not rosy! Heretics, schismatic sects and Satanists are everywhere!

Especially, it seems, France. That benighted land is a nest of heterodoxy, apostasy and impiety. Fortunately, the LORD has revealed to your archbishop the source of the taint, and has commanded that you be sent to burn it out with fire and the holy word. Praise the LORD!

Just three small details of which the LORD was presumably unaware. One, you’re a secret heretic. Two, you’re a secret schismatic. Three, you’re a secret Satanist. And since your fellow monks are all fired up against heretical schismatic Satanists, if any of them find out, it’s the pyre for you… unless you can put them to the torch first.

So remember: stay alert! Trust nobody! And keep your kindling handy!

The Downtown Data Heist

Facilitator:
Nick Adams

The Sprawl is a game of mission based action in a gritty neon-and-chrome Cyberpunk future. You are the extended assets of vast multinational corporations, operating in the criminal underground, and performing the tasks that those multinationals can't do - or can't be seen to do. You are deniable, professional, and - ultimately - disposable.

In the Downtown Data Heist, the team is assembled to undertake what appears to be a simple case of corporate espionage. But as with all jobs in this dirty world, the danger doesn't end until the money's in the bank.

This Downtown Data Heist is one of The Sprawl's introductory missions previously run by the systems creator, Hamish Cameron, at GenCon, and as such may have been played by a number of people. This session assumes no knowledge of The Sprawl, or Apocalypse World.

The Boy in the Rubble

Facilitator:

A Golden Sky Stories scenario written by Jan-Yves Ruzicka.

This game is set in Japan in 1978. You are the local Henge of the village of Shinizumi; mischievous and friendly animal spirits who protect the village and its human inhabitants. Today, you are trying to help your human friends solve a mystery!

Please note that, unlike usual Golden Sky Stories games, this game does have some darkness to it, so it isn't really suitable for anyone looking for a light-hearted game.

Legacy of the Dragons

Facilitator:
Conan McKegg

"In a time that is no longer a time, six warriors fought to save not just our world but all of time itself. Hong Kong blazed as all of history converged on a single point and the Dragons battled to save us all. The battle was brutal and nearly destroyed everything. But when it was over the world was safe. And nobody remembers them because the war never happened..."

In Modern Hong Kong a group of unlikely heroes are about to cross paths and discover the legacy of a war that never happened. Called from across time and space, these heroes have found gateways of power that all lead to Hong Kong in the modern age. But these are not blank slate heroes. They all have their own histories. Enemies. Agendas.

Yet the turn of fate is about to show them that they are part of something bigger. A conspiracy that has survived a war that changed time and reality at its core. Secret factions have been manoeuvring to claim the power of the sites and renew the shadow war that nearly destroyed the world.

Players will get to select from 32 character options, build some of their own history and experience a scenario that will play differently each time based on the combination of characters. Will you be a scrappy kid from the modern day who teams up with an ancient shapeshifting monster lost in time? Or will you be a ghost from the past who has teamed up with a cybernetic warrior from the future?

Feng Shui is a fast paced action game that emulates the classic Hong Kong Action films from Police Story through Hero to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, as well as embracing classic films like Big Trouble in Little China.

Are you ready to take up the legacy of the Dragons?

Kaldera: The Homunculus Gang

Facilitator:
Chris Haddock

They're ratbags and scoundrels who don't know no law,
They're a horribly cantankerous crew.
The Homunculus Gang are the bosses of town,
And they're coming to say hi to YOU!

Nobody in town messes with the Homunculus Gang. They're small time bullies and thugs, but they have big money and bigger magic behind them. So when they come knocking with their grins and their stupid hats people just clam up and pay them the danger money.

But they've gone knocking a bit too hard on the wrong door.

Barry is mad. Hell, Barry is always mad. Being the owner of the largest Bed and Breakfast chain in Kaldera will do that to you. But today Barry is madder than mad. He's effing furious. The Homunculus Gang cruelly destroyed the door of his favourite establishment, and now he wants revenge. That's why he's calling on you. Mayhem, murder, trickery and treachery, Bed and Breakfast Barry doesn't care how you do it, just so long as you make sure the Homunculus Gang doesn't dare come knocking in his neighbourhood again.

About the Game:

Kaldera is a setting for the Fate Core and Fate Accelerated game systems that I have created. It's unique feature is a custom magic system that uses an alphabet of runes that each have a base name and a multitude of meanings. The goal is to use your imagination and cunning to create crafty spells and grand effects using three runes. Since it is Fate, the sky's the limit! Come to this game ready to do some crazy magic, in a crazy city full of crazy people!

You do not need any prior knowledge of the system or the setting, everything will be learned and explained at the table, although some knowledge of Fate Accelerated will be useful. Character's skill sets are pre-constructed, but names and backgrounds will be done at the table as well. No dice are needed, but some paper and pencils are useful.

Uncharted Worlds: Planetary Salvage

Facilitator:
Idiot Savant

It was meant to be a simple job: recover a "package" from the locked cargo vault of a crashed starship on SR-388. And then everything went wrong...

"Uncharted Worlds" is a Space Opera roleplaying game of exploration and debt, powered by the Apocalypse. Players will select and customise their characters, including their relationship to the galaxy's key factions, before being dropped into an SF heist gone horribly wrong. How they dig themselves out is up to them.

Kapcon and The End of The World

Facilitator:
Conan McKegg

Soothsayers and street hawkers have been saying that the "End is Nigh" for millennia.

But today... in this city... at this convention...

The world as we know it will end.

But the method of our destruction is still uncertain. Clouds gather heavy in the sky. Is it a storm brought about by bizarre celestial activity that will rain a corrupting virus down upon Wellington? A portent of the return of ancient gods? Or the first sign of an approaching invasion fleet?

Who can tell?

Kapcon and The End of the World is an apocalyptic adventure where the player's will be playing fictitious versions of themselves as they face zombies, aliens, gods, or the vengeance of nature gone mad. The only tools you have are what you have with you in the room. The fate of humanity and civilisation may be in your hands. Or it may simply be a case of survival against forces beyond your control.

NOTE: If you are not comfortable playing an apocalyptic game with a fictional version of yourself but still want to play in this scenario it's okay to create your own fictional character. The game is more engaging if you're playing a version of yourself, but it is not a requirement.

You are a goblin, or a kobold, or a bugbear... or something of that ilk. The sunlovers come to your cave, kill your siblings and steal your stuff. You've had enough!

We are monsters is a Dungeon World hack where you play the creepy crawlies. Character and word generation is collaborative so no two games are alike!

2016 Small larp signup

As usual, KapCon is running a number of small larps this year alongside the ordinary tabletop sessions. Because these larps require costuming and casting, we are allowing players to preregister for them.

The larps in question are:

Round 3: LARP: On Display (6 spaces)
Round 6: LARP: Raising the Standards (12 spaces)
Round 7: LARP: On Display (6 spaces)

To ensure everyone has a fair shot, we will be running a mini "shark week". Initial registrations will be taken by email between Monday 30 November and midnight Friday 4 December, after which games will be allocated. Where a game is oversubscribed, the decision will be random.

Following the initial signup period, games will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you would like to preregister for one of these slots, please email kapcon@gmail.com. I'll let you know next week which game you've been allocated to.

Note that there are still spaces in the round 1 and 2 larps (which you sign up for using the registration form, and in the flagship Apotheosis (which you can sign up for here). There's also a host of fantastic tabletops as well, so don't worry about missing out. There will be something good to play regardless.
