The Library: Episodes 19, 31, and ∴

Facilitator:
Russ Kale

"The Library is a pirate TV show. It's shown up once or twice on most network channels, but usually it's on the channels that Jeremy thinks of as ghost channels. The ones that are just static, unless you're paying for several hundred channels of cable. There are commercial breaks, but often the commercials aren't even in English, or in any other identifiable language.
Episodes of The Library have no regular schedule, no credits, and sometimes not even dialogue. No one has ever claimed responsibility for inventing The Library. No one has ever interviewed one of the actors, or stumbled across a set, film crew, or script."

-Kelly Link, 'Magic for Beginners'.

'The Library' is the most unusual television program ever conceived. For the first time, we've been able to track down an old recording of three episodes from the second season, 19, 31, and ∴ We invite you to see what happens to Fox, Faithful Margaret, Prince Wing and the dashing-but-treacherous pirate-magician Two Devils when they discover exactly what's about to destroy the Library they hold dear. Will they be able to band together and defeat this new menace? Or will they be forced to accept that sometimes, books don't hold all the answers?

'The Library: Episodes 19, 31, and ∴' is a costume-light, brain-melting experimental LARP from the masochist that's brought you too many Shakespeare games. It's highly recommended that players familiarise themselves with the short story this game is based on - copies are available online and through most public libraries.

Chicago, 2047.

Charles Hartmann, CEO of Hartmann-Prince Multinational, is having a "get-together" to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Al Capone’s death.

At least, that’s one story. Everyone knows there’s got to be a real reason behind the event: maybe he’s planning to announce something that’ll finally end the technological stalemate with rival company Featherlight, or maybe he’s made a contract with the Chicago Police Department for military-grade cyberware. Rumours are everywhere.

But he won’t be the only one at that gathering, and his guests have announcements of their own. Strange, though, that his favoured researcher isn't on the door list...

LARP: The Script

Facilitator:
Claire Ahuriri

Written by Claire Ahuriri

A bunch of stereotypical teens meet in this place. Is it the school after hours? A cabin in the woods? Lover's Lane? No one is quite sure, but it sure is freaky out here. There's rumours of some kind of slasher going around... or was it a werewolf? Or was it pods from Mars? No one can quite figure it out. Maybe the script has the answers. But it's nowhere in sight. What the hell is that creepy voice that keeps giving you orders? Everything is starting to play out like a really bad horror movie. And what’s that over there? Is that… the script?

This LARP is played using Theatresports/Improvisation games to explore the story. (Knowledge of these is not required, and a briefing and warmup will take place)

Shadows of a Black Sun

This is a scenario for Edge of the Empire, an RPG focussing on the scoundrel and scum of the Star Wars universe. It sees a ragtag band of smugglers, slicers, outlaws and exiles struggling to overcome their ever-deepening obligations to shadows of the underworld.

Shadows of a Black Sun is based on the 2013 Free RPG Day scenario of the same name and is especially suitable for new RPGers, Star Wars fans, people interested in Edge of the Empire and those who prefer to shoot first.

New York, in the throes of the roaring twenties. An age of defiance, rebellion, blazing forth into a bright future in a whirl of liquor and dancing.

Recently, an eccentric but much talked about millionaire socialite has died under very questionable circumstances. Speculation abounds in the streets, and splashed across the papers - who was this man, really? Where did he come from? Who killed him? And why?

This afternoon is his funeral, and you are not at it. In the shimmering heat of summer you and other glittering people, none of whom were the sort to have anything to do with the likes of him, while away the afternoon slowly with alcohol, music and something akin to gnawing guilt.

A mature theatreform larp for nine people, inspired by "The Great Gatsby"

The haunted tales of the demons that inhabit Castle Shirasagi have kept people away for generations. As the cruel hand of the Shogun casts the shadow of unrest over the land, the Castle is visited once more by mortals.

This scenario is set in medieval Japan filled with fantastical elements from folklore. It tells a dark tale of horror, tragedy, heroism and romance which explores what happens when the inhabitants from two worlds that should never co-exist come together.

The characters use their swords, magic, love, loyalty, duty and intrigue as they struggle to survive the threats that besiege them from without, as well as that from the other characters, the people they care about and themselves.

The scenario is based on the Kabuki play called "Tenshu Monogatari". It uses the Tenra Bansho Zero system, which is a highly regarded Japanese RPG, recently translated into English.

Incident at Talos

Marcus Bone

Talos IV, the most advanced space station in this region of the Bleed, faces destruction.

Karia Darsell, intergalactic terrorist and unstoppable assassin has posted a warning - Talos IV and everyone onboard will be destroyed unless her demands are met in the next 24 hours. The problem is no one knows exactly what those demands are...

So it is up to our Heroes, the Lazers (the region's freelance police), to not only stop this terrorist threat, but also find out who or where Karia is hiding, and what has made her so angry.

This adventure is a science fiction game using the Ashen Stars (GUMSHOE) system. Combining action and investigation it is set-up as a race against time, in which the character's actions will determine whether or not the space station is saved and just who might survive. It would best suit players wanting a challenging investigative (GUMSHOE at its heart is a investigation game) roleplaying experience where they will have to make hard choices and difficult decisions.

Mr Verity requires your attendance...

And so it begins again, another mission for the Ordo Veritatis (a secret organisation dedicated to the protection of humanity and the destruction of Outer Dark Entities). In this operation the characters find themselves called into investigate the apparent suicide of a high school student, who has seemingly, almost overnight, developed a vestigial twin.

Facing a hostile town, reluctant witnesses and a hidden evil, the operatives are in a race against time to prevent the permanent destruction of the membrane that protects reality from the horrors of beyond.

The Esoterrorist (2nd Edition) is a modern day conspiracy horror game using the GUMSHOE system. This adventure is one of investigation, discovery and drama, and would best suit players looking for a hard hitting, plot driven, game session (i.e. more SVU/Criminal Intent than Action/Adventure). Please note that this plot includes some adult themes, although the depth to which these are explored will be left up to the players to decide during play.

Vote EPOCH for the ENnies!

EPOCH is a cinematic horror rpg by local game designer Dale Elvy. Last KapCon Dale and his crew of sadists thrilled us with seven different EPOCH scenarios, and racked up a body count of over 50. Now, his game has been nominated for four ENnie awards!

The ENnies are a democratic award, so you can vote for EPOCH here. If you'd like to know what all the fuss is about, then EPOCH will be back at KapCon next year. If you can't wait that long, then it will be appearing at Fright Night in October.
