Wellington Anniversary Weekend January 18th - 19th 2025

T-shirts

Yes, there will be T-shirts this year! Here's the preliminary design:

We're currently getting costs, and running a poll on NZRaG to see how much people are willing to pay; if the costs are too high, then we will fall back to the main design (currently on the back) being on the front. So, please fill out the poll and let us know.

Hopefully we can take orders next week.

The Politics of Deception

Whoever wins the war for the future of the Ork Underground is not going to leave a single weapon holstered. From waging outright violence to employing political subterfuge, both sides in the struggle are willing to use any tactics they can dream of to advance their cause.

Anti-metahuman sentiment has long been a hot-button issue in Seattle, and some members of the Ork Rights Committee have decided to expose one of Governor Brackhaven’s cronies for the racist they believe him to be. The only trouble is, people with a high public profile are usually very careful about keeping up appearances. If the ORC is going to support their accusations of racism, they may need some help in getting—or manufacturing—the evidence they need. That, of course, is where shadowrunners come in.

Open Season!

If the Ork Underground is going to become an official district in Seattle, it’s going to need some cleaning up. Even if it’s not, some of the criminals down there have a pesky habit of bringing their activities to the surface, and plenty of people want them eliminated. Seattle law enforcement has had enough, and ADA Dana Oaks is determined to bring down some of the higher-profile criminals of the Underground—starting with a mob enforcer who goes by the name of Junior.

A Stiff One

Facilitator:
Stephanie Pegg

You've just had the worst week of your life. This thing happened, and it was awful, and no matter what you tried to do about it, it was still unspeakably horrible. Well, almost unspeakably. That's what Friday night drinks are for - to sit down with your mates, have a stiff one, and vent about all the stuff that's been happening in your life. Just wait 'til they hear what happened to you.

The Wishing Well

Facilitator:
Andy Millar

In a secluded spot that is easily overlooked near to the highway between Salamonis and Chalice, lies an ancient well in which nobles and princes from long ago once came to cast their gold and make their wishes. With the passing of time, its location was lost and the wishing well fell into legend.

Many years later, a young boy exploring the woods near his home stumbled across the crumbling structure and saw something gold glinting in the bottom of the dried up well floor. News of the well's discovery quickly spread and adventures from across Allansia descended down into its blackness seeking their fortune. None have ever been heard from since.

Now another group stands at the entrance of the well ready to discover the fate of these adventurers and the secrets of the wishing well.

The Advanced Fighting Fantasy roleplaying game is back with a second edition. So grab two D6, a sharpened pencil and a potion of stamina (fresh coffee) to join the fun on Sunday morning. The perfect hangover cure.

Jumping the Sharky

Facilitator:
Mike Foster

The Boss is laid up in hospital, his right hand man on the run and his best men scattered far and wide. Someone's putting the pressure on and there's no time or chance for a gathering to plan their counterattack. But the distance separating them may yet prove their greatest strength, as each man is able to carry out his part of the plan unnoticed while the enemy thinks they're too scattered and distant to be a threat. Of course, communication is key so that every member of the team knows exactly what he has to do, but in this technological age long distance isn't the problem it used to be.

NB: There will some elements of "shared narrative" indie gaming carry-on as all character interaction will take place in the form of telephone conversations (feel free to supply your own props) and action will occur "off-camera" with the participants narrating the outcome afterwards.

Love of Money

Facilitator:
Dale

In the world of The Esoterrorists, a cabal of high-placed sorcerers weakens the membrane between this world and the dreaded Outer Dark by launching operations employing media saturation to subvert the populace’s collective sense of reality. The heroes, the dedicated men and women of the Ordo Veritatis, confront and defeat these plans. These are their stories… [CHA-CHUNK]

Six months ago, Ordo Veritatis agent John Sheldon went off the organisations radar following an emotional breakdown in the wake of loosing his wife in a car crash. He held is sister, fellow Ordo Veritatis agent Caroline Sheldon responsible for her death as she was drunk at the wheel that night. Psychiatric Metrics feared John went out to perform a solo mission to expose the heart of an Esoterrorist funding network he had uncovered in Amsterdam. The proposal for that mission had been shelved months ago due to its low probability of success.

When his body turns up in Amsterdam, evidently the sacrifice in an Esoterrorist ritual, the eye of suspicion turns on the rest of his team he left behind. Are they guilty by mere association, or are they innocent of his fate? They are given a chance to find out what happened to their friend and colleague, and in the process clear them from any suspicion in the eyes of the Ordo Veritatis.

The Love of Money was written by Matthew Sanderson

Means, Motive, Opportunity

Facilitator:

It is the year 1921 and Britain has emerged victorious from The Great War - thanks in part to the efforts of Short Brothers Plc who supplied the planes used in the reconnaissance missions. The owner and chairman, Eustace Short, has invited you to an evening at his home in the countryside, with the understanding that he wishes to make an announcement. Several thoughts rush to mind:

* The company has been suffering lately under his leadership - is he announcing his retirement?
* One of his airships crashed on the City of Hull earlier this year killing 45 people - is he planning to pay reparations or perhaps a memorial?
* Rumour has it that he has been consulting a new lawyer about his will - is he anouncing the changes?

The evening is, however, thrown into disarray when he is found murdered! And to compound matters, you are named as one of the six suspects!

We are looking for six people to play the following characters:
* Scarlett Short - a wealthy young socialite who recently married the victim
* Oswald Short - brother to the victim, part time engineering genius, full time alcoholic and gambler
* Gordon Bell - war buddy to the victim and powerful solicitor
* Cynthia Bell - childhood friend to the victim and married to Gordon Bell
* John Parker - young, ambitious and second in charge of the company
* Herman Smit - the local General Practitioner and personal physician to the victim

Means, Motive, Opportunity is an online and multiplayer game. It involves using a web site and engaging with other players via voice conference. We will bring the computers, you will bring your voice and your imagination.

The game will be run in an offsite location a short walk from Wellington High School

Mystic Empyrean - The Steam Vaults of Nitar

Facilitator:
Daniel Steadman

You are an Eidolon, set apart from the other sentients by your drive and clarity of self awareness. You wear your soul on the outside, granting you immortality and wonderous but strange abilities at the cost of being true to yourself.
You have travelled to Nitar following rumours that a shard of the Cornerstone of the world is hidden there. If true it may contain a chance to change the world and bring it at least one step closer to being saved from the encroachine Aether.

Mystic Empyrean is a brand new game that relies on several story telling systems that I have not seen before. If you enjoy open games that encourage narrative and free-form resolution within the constraints of the games mechanics this game may be for you. If you would like to focus on skill lists and hit points it probably isn't.

This particular scenario is in a world of steampunk, using the games preview adventure, mainly because of the pretty art that came with it.
