Arthur Winthorpe is hosting a dinner party to celebrate the engagement of his daughter Melody to the handsome young Sebastian Gray, and to welcome his good friend Dr Michael Bothrington to London. Dr Bothrington has come to display his latest invention, a Particle Accelerating Destabiliser, at a meeting of the West London Scientific Society's Bi-Annual meeting.

Also present are Melody's sister Juliette, Winthorpe's older brother Colonel Hewitt Winthorpe, and Sebastian's good friend Simon Callahan. However the peaceful scene is rudely interrupted by an act of heinous villainy and adventure ensues
