There’s a house party by the lake and everyone who’s anyone is there. Sure, you don’t remember how you got there and if you really know any of the guests, but who cares when there are bangin’ tunes, an assortment of highs, and so many strange and beautiful people to explore.
One Hell of a Party is a (highly modified) Monsterhearts adventure where the characters are hormonal teenagers who may or may not also be monsters. Confront the supernatural, solve a mystery, or just go on an epic bender! But be careful, one wrong move and you could be slain, or even worse, embarrassed in front of your peers!
Due to its adult themes, this is an R18 adventure. Respectful play will be required and an ‘X card’ and ‘lines and veils‘ will be used throughout.
This is my standard which is to say that there is likely nothing standard about the game at all.
Monsterhearts is an exploration of teen melodrama through the eyes of monsters. Your character will go through the hell of Highschool and hormones in a state of oblivious disregard for the trail of damage they leave behind them as they find their place in the social structures around them.
The game is about being messy and cool in a world that doesn't quite get you and what is crucial in your life.
Think Teenwolf, Jennifers Body, The Coven, Mean Girls or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I will be running Monsterhearts. A powered by the Apocalypse game of teenaged monsters. It's not really for the faint of heart and I encourage you to bring as much teenage melodrama and self absorption as you can manage. The story doesn't matter nearly so much as how you feel.
It's the end of another year at Silverward High, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and everyone's getting ready for the senior prom. The theme, after a lot of argument and compromise, is 'The Sea and Stars', so you can expect a certain... diversity of gowns and tuxedos.
However, Silverward has been abuzz over the last few months with rumours of some horrible evil lurking in the school grounds. You don't want to be spending the best night of the year averting disaster, but you may have to team up with your friends (and enemies) to make sure there's still a student body left to vote for prom queen.
You play monsters in a modern setting. Monsterhearts is part of the increasingly popular lineup of Apocalypse World hacks and focuses around the intertwined lives of a group of monsters struggling with their lives as teenager.
There are usually many moments of humour in the game but it's usually raging hormones, anger and the struggle to fit in that drive these stories.
What evil lurks in the near by high school, apart from teenagers of course, I have no idea. In part one of this double feature the weird and scary was unleashed, now your here to set things right. For those who are unfamiliar with these games they are both Apocalyse World hacks, the first with a focus on the more unhealthy aspects of teenage life and all the drama that entails. Think Jennifers Body, Teen Wolf, the Craft. The second game is more along the lines of Supernatural, Fringe and the X-Files.
Live the messy, horrific and selfish life of a teenager...oh and be a monster too.
I will be directing a game of Monsterhearts. This will be followed up with Stefan Tyler running a session of Monster of the Week, where the hunters track down the and deal with the outcomes of the actions and decisions of the first game.
Another trimester at VUW and everything's just damn *peachy*. The philosophy students are splitting hairs to try and get laid, biology professors are killing rats, your crush just walked through a concrete block the other day, scarves are the latest fashion (especially for pretty male first years), you've got three assignments due in the second week, your roommate has the weirdest collection of books you have ever seen in your entire life, you think your theatre lecturer is some kind of fae or something and there's been a string of weird suicides lately.
...wait, *what*?
All is not well at VUW's Halls of Residences, and for once, the fact that a devil is after your soul may be the least of your worries...
