Surge Protection: Round One

Facilitator:
Paul Wilson

He is a god of Rock, A virtuoso preformer and quite possibly the biggest mess of trouble you have ever had to look after.

As the elite body guards of the Rock God "Surge" it is your job to keep him on track, mobile and to the next gig on time. Preferably sober.

You play the security looking after a person who would make Keith Richards think he needs to slow down. It will be a game of mishaps and adventures trying to stop your boss from spiraling into destruction before the next show.

Six Monks in a Leaky Boat

Facilitator:
Ivan Towlson

Welcome to 13th-century England! You are monks in the service of the LORD. Praise the LORD! The LORD is your friend! After toiling away for years as Red sanctity novices, you have finally achieved the Orange habits of monks. But all is not rosy! Heretics, schismatic sects and Satanists are everywhere!

Especially, it seems, France. That benighted land is a nest of heterodoxy, apostasy and impiety. Fortunately, the LORD has revealed to your archbishop the source of the taint, and has commanded that you be sent to burn it out with fire and the holy word. Praise the LORD!

Just three small details of which the LORD was presumably unaware. One, you’re a secret heretic. Two, you’re a secret schismatic. Three, you’re a secret Satanist. And since your fellow monks are all fired up against heretical schismatic Satanists, if any of them find out, it’s the pyre for you… unless you can put them to the torch first.

So remember: stay alert! Trust nobody! And keep your kindling handy!

LARP: Raising the Standards

Facilitator:
musicforwolves

Twelve famed New Zealanders (none of whom have any design experience) have convened to decide on one flag design out of ten possible choices. Each committee member has their own favoured designs, and with a bit of luck, enough people will be able to agree on a design to be voted on by the wider public. Exciting, right?

Oh, there's one other thing.

The *reason* that everyone has their own favoured designs is that, unbeknownst to the others, everyone in the room is an acolyte of a different arcane being. Your being has promised to bring about the apocalypse, and spare you, if a particular design is selected. So you'd better make sure that flag has a fern on it if you want to be alive this time tomorrow...

--

'Raising the Standards' is a LARP of two halves. In the first half, the players must try and agree on a flag design, trading off various 'win conditions' about the contents of the flag. In the second half, players must attempt to survive the apocalypse that the first half has caused. This is a costume-light, rules-light, seriousness-light game, where the OOC goals are to stack the deck against the characters, and then to either survive or die in a satisfying way.

Pigeons are SCRAPPY and BOLD and your spinning little beady eyes DON’T MISS NUFFIN. Not like those RUBBISH STARLINGS in the Beakers gang. ha.

No. You are the CLAWS. You are cunning and tough! Which is why you can deal with ANYTHING. Even mystery appearing ground-holes that try to kidnap you at night.

LARP: A Royal Celebration

Facilitator:
Nik Crombie

A Royal Celebration - created by John Kim.

The crown prince of Florin is due to be married to the daughter of their greatest enemy. The kingdom prepares to rejoice in a celebration of impending peace. Behind the scenes, though, the castle is buzzing with rumors that disguised pirates are among the guests.

This is a comedic fantasy larp, in the spirit of The Princess Bride with nods to A Midsummer Night's Dream along with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. There is real intrigue and adventure, but also outrageous talents and improbable plot contrivances. The content will be suitable for both adults and teens.

Facilitator's note: This might seem like a fairly costume intensive larp, but for those who decide to drop in at the last minute (or don't want the hassle of making/finding a costume) , I'll have a box of random costuming for you to choose from.

Characters:
Alaric: Steward of the royal palace of Florin.
• Avery: aka "The Amazing Avery." Magician and advisor to General Granville. He is reknowned for his powerful magic, though his motivations are mysterious.
• Baldwin: Younger princeling of Florin.
• Barnabas: An enterprising and feared pirate captain, rival of the Dark Pirate Stevens.
• Barnes: Director of a famed theater troupe.
• Bernadot: Queen of Florin. An arranged marriage with the older Herberunt when he inherited the throne.
• Camille: The head councilor of Gilder, ambassador to Florin. Known for shady dealings, but opposed to war.
• Ferdinand: Captain of the palace guard. An older knight not known for his wits, with ambitions to be a playwright.
• Granville: Top general of Gilder, guardian of Lady Naeva.
• Guildenstern: A noble of the palace guard, an immigrant of Denmark who had fled the political troubles there.
• Harmon: Crown prince of Florin.
• Herberunt: The elderly King of Florin, who inherited the throne 19 years ago when his brother Humphrey was lost at sea.
• Humphrey: Former King of Florin, younger brother of Herberunt. Lost at sea while returning from his extended honeymoon on the Isles of Splendor.
• Jayden: The famed pirate-fighting hero who defeated the Dark Pirate Stevens.
• Naeva: Noble lady of Gilder, ward of General Granville, and bride-to-be of Prince Harmon.
• Rosencrantz: A noble of the palace guard, an immigrant of Denmark who had fled the political troubles there.
• Stevens: aka The Dark Pirate Stevens. A fearsome pirate, who two months ago was defeated and slain by Jayden, and his famed treasure brought to Florin.
• Terry: a palace servant for the past year, known as "Big Ears" Terry, who was hired from the house of a respected but corrupt duke.
• Trudy: Princess of Florin, eldest child of King Herberunt.

The Golden Pegasus Home for Retired Adventurers

Facilitator:
Idiotsavant

The Company of the Argent Banner were a bold band of adventurers led by the Elven Warrior-Mage Quendalon. The Company included a mighty dwarven warrior by the name of Grundel Hammerfist, a Norlander Swordsman called Lars Larson, Brother Thomas- a gentle follower of St Trilby, Petunia Lightfingers - a halfling treasure-finder, the enigmatic wizard Tiberious and his faithful familiar Ermintrude. While the exploits of these intrepid adventurers were many, the most famous (and also the most profitable) was the raid on the temple of the Demon-Lord Moglor.

However, old-age waits for no man, and after fifty years on the road many of the Company decided it was time to retire. Quendalon the Elf, being less affected by the ravages of time decided to start a retirement home, and out of generosity he offered to let his former companions dwell there free of charge. That is how you came the call "The Golden Pegasus" your home.

LARP: The Hirelings

Facilitator:
Donna Giltrap

By Håken Lid and Ole Peder Giæver

In a world of perilous adventure and dark dungeons filled with precious riches, one group of aspiring adventurers are having their first day in a new job, and it’s not quite working out as planned. The Hirelings is a role playing game in which you play out the preparations and the aftermath of a failed dungeon crawl.

The Hirelings draws heavily upon cliches from fantasy role playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, video games, comics and fantasy literature. The characters in the game are all novice adventurers, who are preparing to head out on their first real quest.

The game is divided into five parts: A pre-game workshop, three acts describing the preparations, the implementation and the aftermath of a dungeon crawl, and finally an epilogue and allotment of experience points. The game mixes LARPing with narrative storytelling techniques

This game is from the "Larps From The Factory" book by the Oslo and Trondheim Laivfabrikken.
