[Summerland] Looking for a Friend

Facilitator:
Marcus Bone

‘Looking for a Friend’ is a supernatural investigation scenario, set in the remains of Turner Hills. A strange evil stalks the small community that huddles in the ruins, hunting those who stray too far from its fragile walls be they innocent or guilty.

The question is does this terror come from within or without?

About Summerland
In Summerland, players take on the roles of Drifters, characters who travel beneath the Sea of Leaves, the vast supernatural forest that has devastated the works of humanity. They are driven to constantly move on due to a past trauma that while protecting them from the Call, the siren-song of the forest, it prohibits them from being accepted in to what's left of society. Instead they must confront their past, resolve their trauma and at last join the remainder of humanity.

What style of game will you be getting yourself into? Think Alex Garland's 'Annihilation', the novel 'Roadside Picnic' or the computer game 'Stalker'. You play complex characters in an insane world attempting to solve other people's problems while struggling with your own ills.

I hope to run a dark but heroic adventure with a mature, engaged group of players. I'll bring the mystery, you bring the energy!

January 1975. South Vietnam, near the Cambodian border. The lone survivor of a FUBAR black ops mission stumbles out of the jungle. Limping, bloody, barely alive. When debriefed they make a disturbing report. A hidden jungle temple. Attackers made of living shadow. Dead soldiers coming back to life, hungry for human flesh.

The brass is keen to chalk the report up to hallucinations resulting from injuries sustained, redact the failed mission into oblivion, and forget it ever happened. But for Marine Force Recon 666th Division, this sounds like the latest in a worrying trend of supernatural incidents just over the Cambodian border. A team is dispatched to investigate…

'Necropolis Now' is an action focused game using a modified version of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. (Sure other systems are probably more suited for this story, but I like to try twist 5e into weird shapes). Players will take on the role supernaturally empowered special forces soldiers in a story best described as Tomb of Annihilation meets Apocalypse Now. Get ready to love the smell of Fireballs in the morning.

The Collectors Institute: Miranda's Rules

Facilitator:
Alex Rodgers

As an investigation team for The Collectors Institute, you've recovered weather-control totems from Central American jungle temples, mind-altering Pink Floyd records from music collectors, and supernatural weapons from abandoned Cold War research bases.

So it was probably time that a less glamorous scenario occurred, as contacts are alerting you of strange goings-on in the exotic metropolis of Sheffield. Identification and collection of the Artifact is the main priority, though a chance to be a hero shouldn't be passed up.

Expect a comic, if occasionally creepy game both facing and wielding artifacts of variable power.

Wellington 1919. In the wake of the Great War the dread Haitian 'Flu arrived in New Zealand. Tens of thousands died, if not from the 'flu itself then from the depravations of those who succumbed to the disease only to rise from the grave with an insatiable hunger for human flesh.

The Government responded by enacting curfews and rationing measures. The army set up safe zones guarded by machine guns and barbed wire where the living might continue with their business. Those who wander outside the safe zones risk being torn apart by the living dead.

Still one shouldn't let the fact that the dead are returning to life in contravention of the very laws of nature get one down. Many of the city's well-to-do are doing their best to carry on as if there wasn't an apocalypse on their doorstep. In this spirit of brave defiance Dr and Mrs Harry Young are holding a dinner party for a number of their closest friends.

Mansfield with Monsters has been written to celebrate the release of the book of the same name by Matthew and Debbie Cowens (http://www.steampress.co.nz/monsters.html). You don't have to have read the book to enjoy the LARP, but you might want to check it out anyway.

Little Vermin

Facilitator:
Donna Giltrap

You are members of the Vermin, a gang of Victorian child thieves. A travelling circus has arrived in town and wherever crowds gather there are rich pickings to be found. Your boss, Mr Fladges, is expecting the evening to prove most profitable. It doesn't do to disappoint Mr Fladges, and he has made it clear that anything less than a shilling each would be most disappointing.
