Boats Against the Current

Facilitator:

New York, in the throes of the roaring twenties. An age of defiance, rebellion, blazing forth into a bright future in a whirl of liquor and dancing.

Recently, an eccentric but much talked about millionaire socialite has died under very questionable circumstances. Speculation abounds in the streets, and splashed across the papers - who was this man, really? Where did he come from? Who killed him? And why?

This afternoon is his funeral, and you are not at it. In the shimmering heat of summer you and other glittering people, none of whom were the sort to have anything to do with the likes of him, while away the afternoon slowly with alcohol, music and something akin to gnawing guilt.

A mature theatreform larp for nine people, inspired by "The Great Gatsby"

The haunted tales of the demons that inhabit Castle Shirasagi have kept people away for generations. As the cruel hand of the Shogun casts the shadow of unrest over the land, the Castle is visited once more by mortals.

This scenario is set in medieval Japan filled with fantastical elements from folklore. It tells a dark tale of horror, tragedy, heroism and romance which explores what happens when the inhabitants from two worlds that should never co-exist come together.

The characters use their swords, magic, love, loyalty, duty and intrigue as they struggle to survive the threats that besiege them from without, as well as that from the other characters, the people they care about and themselves.

The scenario is based on the Kabuki play called "Tenshu Monogatari". It uses the Tenra Bansho Zero system, which is a highly regarded Japanese RPG, recently translated into English.

You've just had the worst week of your life. This thing happened, and it was awful, and no matter what you tried to do about it, it was still unspeakably horrible. Well, almost unspeakably. That's what Friday night drinks are for - to sit down with your mates, have a stiff one, and vent about all the stuff that's been happening in your life. Just wait 'til they hear what happened to you.

Argonautica

Desperate times, desperate measures. Down on ratings, down on funding, slowing slipping off the airwaves and into oblivion, an ailing television network launched its final gambit: a pressure-cooker reality TV show where the contenders for the grand prize have to spend three months living on a submarine, deep under the ocean.

It's been three long months of claustrophobic life in the submarine for contenders and crew alike. For the contenders, it's been a non-stop barrage of interpersonal conflicts, hoops to jump and psychological mind games for the world's entertainment. For the crew, it's been life under the network's sword of damocles. In the tiny confines of the underwater vessel, everyone knew that the pay off is the prize, all else must simply be endured. It has been three long months of gritted teeth and thinking of the money at the end, if only it's all a success.

And now, at last, it's all over. With the last of the crew and only three contenders left on board, the winner has just been announced and filming has wrapped. The cameras are off, the submarine has begun its ascent and in just three hours, you're free. There's only three more hours to endure.

Argonautica is intended as a intense, experimental larp dealing with mature themes and some horror elements.

Not Ideal

Facilitator:

Daz is a small-time dope dealer who works to the simple mantra of "no cash, no hash" and doesn't sell the hard stuff. He wants nothing more from life than to sit on his couch eating pizza, playing on his xbox360 and getting high.

Unfortunately for him, the people who knock on his door seem to have other ideas.

Welsh Jeff is Daz's best mate, he can name every number one since 1960, but can't find Cardiff on a map of Wales.

Tracey is tall and beautiful, a pole dancer with big ideas.

Sausagemeat is a hitman, obsessed with gossip.

Sachiko is Daz's next door neighbour, she seems more than a little odd.

Chisels is the psychotic local gang boss and a difficult man to say no to, who always has some mad scheme or other on the go.

Life for Daz and his mates is about to become less than ideal.

*May include some larp-style elements if people are up for it.*
