LARP: The Hollows

Facilitator:
Lee Patrick

Everyone here had their own reasons for joining the cult. Everyone had something they wanted to escape. Everyone listened when the leaders said that all the signs had come, and the end of the world was imminent. Everyone here believed.

Now that you're in the Hollows, the closed-in cave beneath the cult compound where the leaders have promised you'll be safe, things seem a little less clear.

Everyone in the Hollows has something to hide.

It's not safe outside. Trouble is, it's becoming increasingly clear that it's not safe in the Hollows, either.

The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soulless

Facilitator:
Donna Giltrap

Written by David Morrison

Snowdrop House is a newly established B&B, which boasts the finest afternoon tea in all of Brindlewood Bay. So naturally, when an old friend invites you to tea you are quick to accept. However, Snowdrop House used to be the old Stockton Farm, rumoured to be the site of many dark secrets. Secrets some people might kill to protect...

***
Brindlewood Bay is a roleplaying game about a group of elderly women—members of the local Murder Mavens mystery book club—who frequently find themselves investigating (and solving!) real-life murder mysteries. They become increasingly aware that there are supernatural forces that connect the cases they are working on and, in particular, a cult dedicated to the dark, monstrous aspect of the goddess Persephone will come to vex them.

The game is directly inspired by the television show Murder, She Wrote, but also takes inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, “cozy” crime dramas, and American TV shows from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.

Reality TV

Facilitator:
Bridget Hughes

A group of strangers compete for fabulous prizes on a reality TV show. Alliances will form, tensions will flare, bonds will be broken, heads will roll - Wait, what?

A modern fantasy/horror game that leans into the tropes. Plenty of room for comedy too. The object isn't to win the game so much as to play out the shenanigans, try to survive, or die amusingly trying.

Adrift on Ruined Seas

Facilitator:
JulzBurgisser

In the coastal port town of Balance, Ballentia horror lurks nearby in the creeping fog. Ships go to sea never to return and creatures slither silently by in the ocean.

The Wistal Whistles have been called in by Benedict Orez, young mayor of the town. He was recently appointed by his Grandfather and former Mayor Sirap Orez. He is determined to solve the mystery surrounding the fishing boats of Balance that don't always come back home as the town is now in big trouble.

Will the Wistal Whistles, an extraordinary mystery solving team, be able to figure out what's going on and put the town back to the bustling port town it always used to be?

A tale of curses, lost love and high seas treachery. Come aboard, me hearties as we take to the sea! Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life .... and death ....

'Adrift on Ruined Seas' is a homebrewed one shot pirate mystery horror adventure based in The World of Isen created by Brad Zimmerman. The one shot is played over 3 to 4 hours with pre-generated level 7 characters featuring characters previously seen in another horror home brew one shot set in Isen, "The Hallowed Festival of Frights" with some new friends also in tow.

Warnings: This session is fairly fun and super welcoming of all ages, abilities and who folx are or want to be, there are one or two moments of scary. Just the usual mystery solving with monsters stuff but I like to be upfront and keep my players safety in mind at all times. Any questions regarding this, please ask. Also this session, being with level 7 characters is a bit more advanced so some basic prior knowledge is advised.

'Adrift on Ruined Seas' is set in the homebrewed World of Isen, created by Brad Zimmerman. Session DM’d by Julz Burgisser who plays Marley Kraff in the D&D 5e actual play podcast ‘Fate of Isen’ available for download on iTunes, Spotify and all good podcasting apps. See www.fateofisen.com for more details on Isen.

The Hallowed Festival of Frights

Facilitator:
Julz Burgissser

A manor that speaks of old money grandeur sits slowly decaying on a large overgrown section. The owners have all long ago departed in bloody circumstances surrounded by rumours and fear. Considered haunted and cursed, it’s been left by the town of Wistal to fall into disrepair. No one ever goes into Schwartzkonig Manor, or if they do, they've never come back out to say so. It’s the perfect place for a bunch of teens to tease each other about being too chicken to enter, especially on the day of the most spooky celebration in Isen. Until one of them actually does. Now you’re standing outside the gates and you can feel the Manor’s eyes on you …waiting to see what you’ll do. It’s up to you to save your friend. Will you be brave enough to enter? Will you survive what’s inside?

Using the system Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, 4 - 6 level 1 characters will explore a Haunted House, fighting the monsters that live there, solving problems and depending on their rolls seeing visions of someone mysterious in the house. This is designed to be a session that can also teach new players how to play, so come along to learn if you want!

Warnings: While this session is fairly fun and super welcoming of all ages, abilities and who folx are or want to be, there are one or two moments of blood filled scenes. Just the usual spooky house stuff but I like to be upfront and keep my players safety in mind at all times. Any questions regarding this, please ask. I'm more than happy to adjust if we have a whole group that is uncomfortable with these things or if some kids want to play.

Hashtag the Vault of Horror

Facilitator:

In the seventies, monsters and demons ruled supreme - killing and haunting and wrecking all sorts of schlocky horror. But that was ages ago, that was your parent's time. Sure, your mom may have been recruited as an incubator for a Satanic cult, or your Dad might've been the best exorcist known to humanity. Maybe you inherited some kind of power your mom used at a prom one time or a list of people who still Need to Pay from your dad... but it's time to make your own way in the world, isn't it?

A group of Gen X, Xennial and Millenial monster hunters with something to prove, a legacy to embrace or outrun, or possibly someone to avenge. When they rock into town to solve the latest mystery it's either to set things right or make a bigger mess.

Who will survive and what will be left of them?

Imagine Disney's Descendents but the parents were all the leads in Seventies horror movies. Time to get into the Mystery Machine and see what you can make of yourself.

Pre-made characters, knowledge of Big Name 70s horror movies recommended

“Those diseases which medicines do not cure, iron cures; those which iron cannot cure, fire cures; and those which fire cannot cure, are to be reckoned wholly incurable.” —Hippocrates

Wed, Nov 21, 2012
At 0800 hours today, CDC received an emergency call from Dr Fritz Strickland, one of two full-time physicians at Hudson's Well Catholic Hospital in Hudson's Well, AZ. In less than 24 hours, eight patients have been admitted, with suspect symptoms, including two medical staff, and three of those have died. High fever is universal, and intense headaches are also reported, along with coughing, nausea, disorientation and hallucinations.

Dr Strickland has isolated the patients and is requesting immediate assistance.

All patients have proven resistant to antibiotics including Cafepime, Levequin and Vancimycin. Tylenol failed to reduce their fevers, and cooling blankets were only marginally effective.

The responders named below are to proceed immediately to Hudson's well Catholic Hospital, identify the illness, set a treatment plan, locate the source of the infection, evaluate the crisis, and advise on contagion and containment.

A small town. A mysterious disease. A secret beyond human understanding. This scenario is from DELTA GREEN: Control Group.

Purification

Facilitator:
Jamie Sands

You had a plan, you were going to be safe and sound for the purification… but there’s a spanner in the works, your plans didn’t work out, and now you’re stuck in this place with people you don’t know and cannot trust. Can you survive the night?

Set in an alternate universe American city: for 12 hours there are no laws. All crime is legal, and all police, fire and medical emergency services remain unavailable for 12 hours, from 7 pm till 7 am the next day. The only rules being that government officials with authorization levels of 10 and higher are not to be disturbed and all weapons above Class 4 (all explosive devices, rocket launchers, bazookas, miniguns, etc.) are forbidden.

This is a fast paced game requiring imagination, quick thinking and a certain stomach for horror.

No rape in this universe, but creative murders and deadly traps will occur.

[Summerland] Looking for a Friend

Facilitator:
Marcus Bone

‘Looking for a Friend’ is a supernatural investigation scenario, set in the remains of Turner Hills. A strange evil stalks the small community that huddles in the ruins, hunting those who stray too far from its fragile walls be they innocent or guilty.

The question is does this terror come from within or without?

About Summerland
In Summerland, players take on the roles of Drifters, characters who travel beneath the Sea of Leaves, the vast supernatural forest that has devastated the works of humanity. They are driven to constantly move on due to a past trauma that while protecting them from the Call, the siren-song of the forest, it prohibits them from being accepted in to what's left of society. Instead they must confront their past, resolve their trauma and at last join the remainder of humanity.

What style of game will you be getting yourself into? Think Alex Garland's 'Annihilation', the novel 'Roadside Picnic' or the computer game 'Stalker'. You play complex characters in an insane world attempting to solve other people's problems while struggling with your own ills.

I hope to run a dark but heroic adventure with a mature, engaged group of players. I'll bring the mystery, you bring the energy!
