Hashtag the Vault of Horror

Facilitator:

In the seventies, monsters and demons ruled supreme - killing and haunting and wrecking all sorts of schlocky horror. But that was ages ago, that was your parent's time. Sure, your mom may have been recruited as an incubator for a Satanic cult, or your Dad might've been the best exorcist known to humanity. Maybe you inherited some kind of power your mom used at a prom one time or a list of people who still Need to Pay from your dad... but it's time to make your own way in the world, isn't it?

A group of Gen X, Xennial and Millenial monster hunters with something to prove, a legacy to embrace or outrun, or possibly someone to avenge. When they rock into town to solve the latest mystery it's either to set things right or make a bigger mess.

Who will survive and what will be left of them?

Imagine Disney's Descendents but the parents were all the leads in Seventies horror movies. Time to get into the Mystery Machine and see what you can make of yourself.

“Those diseases which medicines do not cure, iron cures; those which iron cannot cure, fire cures; and those which fire cannot cure, are to be reckoned wholly incurable.” —Hippocrates

Wed, Nov 21, 2012
At 0800 hours today, CDC received an emergency call from Dr Fritz Strickland, one of two full-time physicians at Hudson's Well Catholic Hospital in Hudson's Well, AZ. In less than 24 hours, eight patients have been admitted, with suspect symptoms, including two medical staff, and three of those have died. High fever is universal, and intense headaches are also reported, along with coughing, nausea, disorientation and hallucinations.

Dr Strickland has isolated the patients and is requesting immediate assistance.

All patients have proven resistant to antibiotics including Cafepime, Levequin and Vancimycin. Tylenol failed to reduce their fevers, and cooling blankets were only marginally effective.

The responders named below are to proceed immediately to Hudson's well Catholic Hospital, identify the illness, set a treatment plan, locate the source of the infection, evaluate the crisis, and advise on contagion and containment.

Purification

Facilitator:
Jamie Sands

You had a plan, you were going to be safe and sound for the purification… but there’s a spanner in the works, your plans didn’t work out, and now you’re stuck in this place with people you don’t know and cannot trust. Can you survive the night?

Set in an alternate universe American city: for 12 hours there are no laws. All crime is legal, and all police, fire and medical emergency services remain unavailable for 12 hours, from 7 pm till 7 am the next day. The only rules being that government officials with authorization levels of 10 and higher are not to be disturbed and all weapons above Class 4 (all explosive devices, rocket launchers, bazookas, miniguns, etc.) are forbidden.

This is a fast paced game requiring imagination, quick thinking and a certain stomach for horror.

CW:
No rape in this universe, but creative murders and deadly traps will occur.

[Summerland] Looking for a Friend

Facilitator:
Marcus Bone

‘Looking for a Friend’ is a supernatural investigation scenario, set in the remains of Turner Hills. A strange evil stalks the small community that huddles in the ruins, hunting those who stray too far from its fragile walls be they innocent or guilty.

The question is does this terror come from within or without?

About Summerland
In Summerland, players take on the roles of Drifters, characters who travel beneath the Sea of Leaves, the vast supernatural forest that has devastated the works of humanity. They are driven to constantly move on due to a past trauma that while protecting them from the Call, the siren-song of the forest, it prohibits them from being accepted in to what's left of society. Instead they must confront their past, resolve their trauma and at last join the remainder of humanity.

What style of game will you be getting yourself into? Think Alex Garland's 'Annihilation', the novel 'Roadside Picnic' or the computer game 'Stalker'. You play complex characters in an insane world attempting to solve other people's problems while struggling with your own ills.

I hope to run a dark but heroic adventure with a mature, engaged group of players. I'll bring the mystery, you bring the energy!

Oakwood Heights

Facilitator:
Luke Walker

It is a cold grey winter’s day in Detroit, as members of the public prosecutor’s office and police force shepherd the accused Franklin Mills around his crime scenes throughout the city. The objective is to attain clarity of what happened on that fateful day back in August, the motive behind the cruel murders, whether Franklin Mills really lost his memory, and what happened to the missing boy.

This is a horror scenario containing dark and mature concepts, including murder, abuse and suicide. Though the X-Card will be in use, it is not appropriate for players of a young age and those who are sensitive to such matters. The scenario uses a Powered by the Apocalypse system, which has been altered to shift the narrative toward the GM and reinforce the horror themes.

Shiny Man

Facilitator:
Michael Foster

The myth of the Shiny Man dates back almost to the beginning of New Mexico as a state. Where his face should be is a cold, shining light which freezes you on the spot and with his scaly hands the Shiny Man snatches up unwary children to put in his bottomless pockets.

Now it appears the Shiny Man has turned his malignant gaze upon the sleepy town of Grantsville, with reported sightings all over the place and local kids behaving oddly. But in reality it's probably just the recent news reports of a serial killer operating in the area which is fuelling the rumours, right?

Content warning: Best avoided if you're in anyway squeamish about bad things happening to children.

Dread: Redwater Rapids

Facilitator:
Jay 'Rakdos'

The little town of Redwater, Texas. Home to a good five hundred souls and the Quincey Morris University.
It is a time of curiosity, debauchery and intensity. The Swinging Sixties is in full swing, and it is summer break of 1966. Not a lot of songs reference the Summer of '66, but to hell with that, it's time to party!
However, there are a lot of tales.
Wright Patman Lake, the biggest lake for miles, has a few myths about it, such as the infamous Minotaur Scare of '63 where a group of six almost all died in the woods around Wright Patman and the last one blamed it on minotaurs.
Or, of course, the Mud Drownings in '62, where another group all drowned because they got stuck in the sediment at the bottom, and their clothing was caked in hardened mud.
But come on, those things don't exist... Right?

Bleak Prospect

Facilitator:
Dale

The residents of a shantytown in Depression-era Massachusetts find their small community under assault from unknown forces. Working to overcome their own infirmity and the indifference of the authorities, the investigators - residents of the shantytown themselves - need to find out who or what is preying on them before those they hold dear are destroyed.

This is a scenario for Call of Cthulhu 7e by Scott Dorward. The players take the role of pre-generated investigators who work together, risking their sanity and wellbeing to solve mysteries
