The Prophecy Heist

Facilitator:
Chris Haddock

In the wake of the Alchemist's Conference, a band of criminals set out to perform the biggest heist in Kaldera's history! The Soup of Prophecy is said to grant the common folk unfiltered views of the future, a path to infinite wealth and power! However before the heist can even be planned the extracts of the famous Fallivaro must be stolen, to provide the ingredients for a potion that will obscure the thieves from the future sight of the Seers. If everything went to plan, they should have the formula now…..

Or do they!?

Fate is a narrative roleplaying game - the outcome of the story is more often than not a collaborative one, rather than the GM determining the consequences. Your character's aspects and backstory are integral to their stats, and can impact on how the game plays out.
Kaldera is a custom setting using the Fate 3 rules. Kaldera is a land of magic, where the fundamental building blocks of the universe exist in the form of Glyphs, ancient symbols that are used to write spells. Every spell is different, because each Glyph contains a myriad of interpretations - the Glyph for Fire also means Passion, for passion burns hot like a flame. It also means life, as warmth is vital to survival, but can mean danger too - because fire burns! Three Glyphs combined with the intention of the user creates a spell. Your characters in Kaldera are expert users of Glyphs, the only limit is your imagination!

This game, The Prophecy Heist, is the second in a two part game. The events of the game will be influenced by the choices of the players in The Alchemist's Conference!

The Alchemist's Conference

Facilitator:
Chris Haddock

The annual Alchemist's conference has come to Kaldera, along with all the chaos it can bring. Barry's Boys are planning a grand heist of the Seer's council, but before they rob from those who literally see the future they have to whip up some spells to fog the eyes of the wise. Rumour has it the grand Alchemist Fallivaro has concocted just such a formula.

That's where you come in. Barry has hired you as a deniable asset - you'll be performing the heist of Fallivaro's new formula, before his Boys pull off the main heist later in the week. You'll need to plan your approach, come up with some sneaky spells to get the goods, then make it out without the Heat catching you!

Supers Anonymous

Facilitator:
Bridget Hughes

It is a time of superheroes. Paragons of strength, justice, and freedom patrol the skies seeking to stop evil in it's tracks. The guild of heroes is organised into strings. The A string deals with planet wide threats, the B string deals with national threats, the C string deals with more localised threats and so on. The guild of heroes provides training, regulation, lawyers, makeup, and PR for heroes so they can focus on being beacons of virtue (and getting great endorsement deals)

But not every super is a hero, and not every power is wonderful. You are the G string: Supers with powers (or personalities) too strange, unstable, or ridiculous to be allowed to wander around loose, but who haven't done enough wrong that they can lock you up (yet).

The jerks at the guild would rather you didn't exist. They'd have you fetching coffee if there wasn't a solid chance you'd blow it up, so you've been banished to some backwater city. Your secret base is a janitors cupboard, and your companions are the residents of a retirement home that isn't all it seems. Maybe you want to prove yourself and rise in the ranks, maybe it was this or jail, maybe you have a score to settle, or maybe you just took a wrong turn and no one's told you what's going on yet.

This game leans heavy into the tropes, the more ridiculous the better. The goal isn't to win so much as to be as bizarre as possible while doing it.

We will be using lines and veils, and the X card. Pregens will be provided, but some customisation (as time allows) can be done. We may deal with themes including addiction, (comedic) nudity, and mental health, but this will be discussed before the game starts and we'll rule out themes that folks are uncomfortable with.

Reality TV

Facilitator:
Bridget Hughes

A group of strangers compete for fabulous prizes on a reality TV show. Alliances will form, tensions will flare, bonds will be broken, heads will roll - Wait, what?

A modern fantasy/horror game that leans into the tropes. Plenty of room for comedy too. The object isn't to win the game so much as to play out the shenanigans, try to survive, or die amusingly trying.

Kaldera: The Homunculus Gang

Facilitator:
Chris Haddock

They're ratbags and scoundrels who don't know no law,
They're a horribly cantankerous crew.
The Homunculus Gang are the bosses of town,
And they're coming to say hi to YOU!

Nobody in town messes with the Homunculus Gang. They're small time bullies and thugs, but they have big money and bigger magic behind them. So when they come knocking with their grins and their stupid hats people just clam up and pay them the danger money.

But they've gone knocking a bit too hard on the wrong door.

Barry is mad. Hell, Barry is always mad. Being the owner of the largest Bed and Breakfast chain in Kaldera will do that to you. But today Barry is madder than mad. He's effing furious. The Homunculus Gang cruelly destroyed the door of his favourite establishment, and now he wants revenge. That's why he's calling on you. Mayhem, murder, trickery and treachery, Bed and Breakfast Barry doesn't care how you do it, just so long as you make sure the Homunculus Gang doesn't dare come knocking in his neighbourhood again.

About the Game:

Kaldera is a setting for the Fate Core and Fate Accelerated game systems that I have created. It's unique feature is a custom magic system that uses an alphabet of runes that each have a base name and a multitude of meanings. The goal is to use your imagination and cunning to create crafty spells and grand effects using three runes. Since it is Fate, the sky's the limit! Come to this game ready to do some crazy magic, in a crazy city full of crazy people!

You do not need any prior knowledge of the system or the setting, everything will be learned and explained at the table, although some knowledge of Fate Accelerated will be useful. Character's skill sets are pre-constructed, but names and backgrounds will be done at the table as well. No dice are needed, but some paper and pencils are useful.
